VERONIKA COHEN – MUSICAL MIRRORS    

Musical Mirrors is a pedagogic approach developed by Prof. Veronika Cohen, head of the music education department at the Academy of Music and Dance, Jerusalem. The approach was developed for facilitating listening to complex music through the use of Kinesthetic Analogues.  “Musical Mirrors”  tie musical events to their kinesthetic source. The “Mirror” is demonstrated by  hands motions and reflects musical events such as  rise and fall, changes in rhythm, harmonic change, phrasing . The teacher performs the “mirror” while the children primarily are listening to the music and later on are imitating the motions.  “Musical Mirrors” are used as a communicative tool to translate musical information without words..
